About PDF Metadata Editor
Every PDF file contains a set of metadata fields — invisible document properties that describe the file. These include: Title (the document's name as it appears in the title bar of PDF readers), Author (the person or organisation that created it), Subject (a brief description of the content), Keywords (tags used for search indexing), Creator (the software that created the original document), and Producer (the software that generated the PDF). This metadata is readable by anyone who opens your PDF's properties panel. Editing PDF metadata matters for several practical reasons. When you save a Word document as PDF, the author field is automatically populated with your Windows username or Microsoft account name — which you may not want to share with clients or colleagues. Similarly, documents created from templates may carry an incorrect title or the original author's name. Metadata also affects how documents are indexed by search engines and document management systems. For professional document distribution, consistent and accurate metadata makes documents easier to find, organise, and attribute. For legal and compliance submissions, accurate author and date metadata can be required. For privacy, removing or anonymising the author field before sharing a document is good practice. Our metadata editor lets you view the current metadata of any PDF and update all standard fields instantly.
